Tour of North India

Till a month back, the most northernmost I had ever gone to was Ahmedabad in Gujrat. The mountains and valleys of the North were still places seen on TV or read about in books and journals. Visiting these places was something I had wanted to do for a long time. The snow-capped mountain peaks, the rivers rushing along the valleys, the thick forests with the tall pine trees !!

So along came an opportunity to fulfill this long-standing wish. We - a group of four friends decided to set out on this journey. It was our planning and some good fortune that we managed to get the confirmed tickets on right time.

8th April

Left from Mumbai Central by the Golden Temple Express

9th April

Full day train Journey
Saw the stations like Ratlam, Kota, Mathura, Delhi along the way.

10th April

Woke up when the train was running through the big farms of Punjab (just as shown in DDLJ, Veer Zara and other Yash Chopra movies). Reached Amritsar after some time. The big and spacious Amritsar station is an apt representation of the Punjabi way of life where everything is done on a big and grand way.

After freshening up at an accomodation, we first headed towards the Golden Temple. This place is really grand and beautiful. The pure white structures surrounding the holy water give this place a divine feel. And the main shrine with the bright golden glow is a sight to be remembered for life.
